Bound by Ink

by George Murphy on January 23, 2013

It was surprising news when my  wife told me that she and our daughter were going to be getting matching tattoos. She had only slowly come around to the idea of our daughter getting a tattoo (once she was old enough), let alone the idea of her getting one herself.  It was a sign of just how much they’ve been through together in recent years and how deep the bond between them had grown. For my part, it was certainly an event worth memorializing in a special image that captured both the beautiful tattoo art that now adorns them and acknowledged the simple song that has held so much meaning for them over the years; and so I offer you “Bound by Ink.”

Bound by Ink

Technical Notes:
I shot with a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III camera using a Canon EF 24-105mm ƒ/4 L lens at an exposure of 1/160 sec. @ ƒ/11 using an ISO setting of 100. Rim lighting was from two Profoto Acute flash heads using a D4 power supply, with the key lighting from a Ray Flash ring flash adapter on a Canon 580 EX II Speedlight attached to the camera. The green background and rose are a composite of photographic textural elements integrated with the foot photography in Photoshop CS6, where the background song lyrics were also added.
