A Holiday Gallery – Petaluma’s Lighted Boat Parade

by George Murphy on December 23, 2011

It’s hard to resist turning one’s camera toward all of the magical decorations that crop up at this time of year. My own town of Petaluma, California, does it up with the Holiday Lighted Boat Parade. This annual event involves a flotilla of brightly decorated watercraft of all sizes making their way up the Petaluma River, where they dock along the downtown waterfront to the delight of thousands of visitors. The spectacle includes Santa’s timely arrival into town on the bow of one of the festively decorated boats. After years of missing this local tradition, we finally made it down to the Petaluma River waterfront to take in this popular event alongside thousands of others from all over the Bay Area.
