Another Day at the Office

by George Murphy on August 28, 2016

Often our work in film and visual effects revolves around grueling hours spent on closed stages or in front of computers, in windowless rooms that never see the light of day. Every now and then, however, there are perks…time we are actually tasked to spend in beautiful places in the real world.  Today was one of those days, trekking by train and van through the Southern Alps of New Zealand.

…Today was a good day at the office.

Technical Notes:
I shot with a Canon EOS-5D Mark III camera using a Canon EF 24-105mm ƒ/4 L lens zoomed to 28mm. Exposure of 1/4000 sec. @ ƒ/9 using an ISO setting of 640 in Manual mode. The high ISO was because I wanted to keep things sharp even when shooting from moving vehicles.  While this was shot from a static vantage, I hadn’t yet switched the sensitivity back down to the 100 ISO value I would normally use for something like this. Fortunately the Mark III sensor shows very little noise, even at this setting.
